OUR 6 Favorite Supplements For Detox

Our 6 Favorite Supplements For Detox
@holistic_coaching_clarissa

Let’s get one thing straight: Our bodies are designed to detox naturally, all on their own. We are also designed to eat natural foods cultivated by way of nature, not tainted by pesticides, GMO soy, antibiotics, and toxic runoff. We are also designed to breathe clean air. To use natural topical ingredients, instead of sulfates, surfactants, unnatural emulsifiers, parabens, carcinogens, and other preservatives… But oops, here we are.

This is not to say that our bodies don’t work hard to detox as much crap as our modern world hurls at us, inside or outside of our control. In fact, our bodies are incredible, powerful entities that straight up kick ass detoxifying as much as they can for us. Thank you, human body. You are incredible and we love you.

That being said, we know the aforementioned toxic crap load being hurled at us on a daily basis would tally up so high, it’d make our head spin. Instead of dwelling on that proximal number, we choose to give our detoxification systems a little boost. Here are some of our favorite supplements to make elimination of all kinds a little bit more efficient.

Milk Thistle

The active ingredient inside milk thistle is known as silymarin, and it’s powerful stuff. It works as an antioxidant by reducing free radical production and lipid peroxidation. The National Library of Medicine claims that milk thistle has antifibrotic activity, and acts as an agent to block toxins by inhibiting their ability to bind to cell membranes. It helps repair the liver from the effects of alcohol, acetaminophen, carbon tetrachloride, radiation, iron overload, phenylhydrazine, cold ischaemia and Amanita phalloides.

Glutathione

This compound is naturally present in our bodies, and concentrated in the liver. It’s a powerful antioxidant against daily stressors, and Joseph Pizzorno of Integrative Medicine, Encinitas declares it a mighty agent in protecting us from not only oxidative stress, but also mercury, other toxic metals, alcohol, and persistent organic pollutants like pesticides and poor air quality. Glutathione helps to eliminate these poisons and toxic substances in the liver, lungs, intestines, and kidneys.

L-Glutamine

L-glutamine is another liver detoxifier, by way of antioxidative power. It also helps our mucus membranes rebuild and repair, which is helpful in the stomach and the gut, and assists with IBS and constipation. It helps to boost metabolism as well as cellular detoxification.

Magnesium

Most of us are deficient in magnesium, because our bodies can’t make it on their own – we need to get it from our food. Since modern farming makes food typically less nutritionally dense, supplementation is key. Chelated magnesium is more easily absorbed by the body than non-chelated, so look for that on your label. It helps to flush toxins from our cells, and stimulate cell activity so that toxins are released into the bloodstream for processing and elimination. Magnesium citrate also has a laxative effect for many, resulting in elimination via bowel movement, which is great when traveling or constipated.

Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomaceous earth is actually powdered fossils of marine animals rich in zinc. Sounds weird, right? Not only is zinc a great detoxifying mineral, but these tiny particles don’t disintegrate, and in fact, while they are microscopic enough not to harm us, have sharp edges that can harm parasites deep in the bowels. When parasites try to consume them with the rest of our waste, they get shredded from the inside out, allowing us to pass their harmful little corpses. Please enjoy this disturbing image of powerful detoxification.

Schisandra

An amazing traditional Chinese medicine herb, schisandra berry helps the liver detox our daily toxic load. Most liver detoxifiers dump the toxins they’ve pulled out from the liver into the bloodstream, creating a race to eliminate before the toxins are absorbed again. Schisandra works by binding the toxins in the bloodstream, making them larger and harder to reabsorb. It’s easiest to take by tincture, 20-30 drops a day in water, in addition to your milk thistle supplements!
