30, HEALTHY, and Fabulous

30, Healthy, and Fabulous
@jensallure

Perhaps some of us have noticed that we are entering the best shape of our lives as we exit our 20’s. How could this be? Weren’t we the spritely image of youth in our 20’s? Weren’t we naturally thinner, surviving on little sleep during higher education years, binge drinking sans hangover? Didn’t we relish our skin before fine lines? Or maybe it’s the opposite: the passing of time is becoming evident on our faces and bodies at a quicker pace and we aren’t sure what to do about it. Hold the phone!

For those of us that have discovered an interest in our health and longevity, the older we get the more aware we are of our daily practices and every single choice we make when it comes to food and fitness. We are more engaged, more present, and more self aware, and the result is a more healthful, glowing exterior with more energy than before.

The rest of us are experiencing rapid decline as we make no changes to our habits from the previous decade. Our 30’s are a time to pivot, so it’s not too late to make wellness a priority! Many women come into our sexual peak at this time, so addressing a healthy diet, discovering new herbs and treatments, and being cognizant of our hormones can transform us from the inside out, and provide a template for truly graceful aging.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

One thing we understand for certain, is that hydration is beauty. We tend to let proper hydration fall to the wayside when we are young and supple, but it typically isn’t until we begin to see even the faintest signs of aging that we are triggered into taking proper care of ourselves. This means drinking water, eating water-filled vegetables, and making sure we get plenty of electrolytes so that you can glow from the inside out.

Cell Command Therapy

This might seem like a new concept to most, but it’s really the age-old mantra trick. When we believe the words we think and say, we actualize them into reality. It’s the idea that when we say or think specific ideas, they create responses in the body on a cellular level. Ways to practice this are immediately stopping your negative self-talk, as it actualizes the negative.

Replace these thoughts with praise and hopeful, encouraging mantras, and keep a gratitude journal. We can experience immense rejuvenation and prevent aging due to chronic, negative stress through these practices. Try telling yourself sweet somethings in the mirror each day, and watch yourself grow more beautiful.

Skincare is more than the neck up

We musn’t obsess over just our face, we need to get serious about the rest of the bod, too. Hands are one of the quickest places to showcase aging, so it’s imperative that we remember to sunscreen them daily, especially when we know we will be outside. Don’t forget the chest and the tops of the thighs, too!

Sleep is precious

Gone are the nights when 5 hours seemed like a sufficient enough amount of shuteye to get us through a productive day. We need to clock our 7.5-9 hours, because that’s when truly restorative healing takes place. This proper cell turnover is what beauty sleep is all about, and it’s real, baby.

Add resveratrol to your supplement arsenal

Resveratrol is a potent polyphenol, aka an antioxidant that fights oxidation, aging, stress and damage. It’s found in grapes, berries, peanuts, and red wine, but we can eat that all day and not find the concentrated amount that is found in a quality supplement. It is said that resveratrol may promote longevity by activating certain genes called sirtuins, helping us to age as softly as possible.

Exfoliate

No, please, not with those terrible, clunky, mechanical scrubs we used to rub our faces raw with as teens. Time to elevate to a proper AHA or BHA acid exfoliant once weekly. In our 30’s our cells begin to turn over more slowly, meaning they could use a little added assistance to aid in the glow up. It also helps our products to sink it more efficiently. We definitely don’t want to overdo it, though, so don’t utilize these intensive acids more than twice a week.

Move your body

Sorry, but it’s true. We can’t eat pizza and ramen 5 days a week and still fit into our favorite jeans. However, pilates, cardio, yoga, and strength training (don’t be afraid of weights, ladies) will be a major component in you feeling the best you have in years. Making sure we are in shape in our 30’s will also ensure we have the tools and the groundwork to stay in shape the rest of our lives.
