Our Favorite Clean(ish) Nail Polishes

Our Favorite Clean(ish) Nail Polishes
@jesshunt2
Because the world feels like a prettier place when your nails are done

Unfortunately, no nail polish can be completely clean and non-toxic. It is just not within our current technology to create a lasting shellac of every possible color we desire, and while we at Âmé have come to terms with this, we know we don’t have to completely settle.

There are plenty of chemicals in nail polish that we wouldn’t want to breathe, let alone let seep into our skin. One of the top culprits is Formaldehyde. Yes, it is a well-known embalming fluid (creepy) and is one of the toxic chemicals found in common nail polishes. Also look out for Dibutyl phthalate (DBP), Toulene, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, Ethyl Tosylamide, Xylene, MEHQ/HQ, MIT, and Parabens.

Luckily, there are some amazing brands today that are doing their best to eliminate some of the more nasty components of your regular drugstore nail polish, and we try to exclusively swear by these labels when we gloss our digits. You should keep an eye out for brands that claim to be 7-free, 10-free, or 13-free, etc., as these are claims to be formulated without a number of the toxic chemicals mentioned above. We’ve done some of the homework for you.

Sparitual

One of the best brands out there doing as-clean-as-possible nail colors without sacrificing efficacy and performance is by far Sparitual. Shop a generous selection of high-performance colors and sheens in 12-free and 13-free vegan lines. All ingredients free of gluten, too, in case you were wondering.

Zoya

13-free and a classic, Zoya is available online and in most nail-supply superstores. It’s an accessible, super affordable price, and one of the first to take on the task of clean beauty in the nail polish game, without demanding the clout. There is an enormous selection of colors available, but at this price, no need to limit yourself!

Tenoverten

8-free and an absolutely gorgeous selection of colors, Tenoverten has been in the clean polish game since the beginning. The founders are invested in healthy nails and clean, natural nail care, so the line is complete with everything you need to maintain super strong, natural nails.

Cote

Vegan, non-toxic, and 10-free, Cote is a simple and honest brand with a core palette of neutrals and hundreds of other more unique and refined shades to build up your clean home-mani supply.

J. Hannah

Not only are her bottles chic, but namesake jewelry designer J. Hannah’s nail polish line is also super stylish. A palette of earthy, nuanced shades are very on-brand for her minimalist designs and the best part? They are all non-toxic and cruelty-free.
