Many of us have already made the switch to clean beauty on multiple levels. Our skincare is clean and green, our makeup is free of phthalates and dangerous preservatives like antifreeze (yes, there is really antifreeze in many products, beware of an ingredient list that contains propylene glycol). But what are we clinging to when it comes to haircare?

Our fancy foams make us feel squeaky clean, but how are they damaging the scalp? Products that promise to “lift” add bulk and buildup. Keratin products coat the shaft so it can’t breath or absorb moisture. Intense fragrances overpower our senses, clash with our favorite perfumes, and get absorbed by the skin… which happens to surround our head aka our precious central nervous system.

And, lest we forget, our skin doesn’t stop at our hairline. The skin on our scalp is an extension of the skin on our face, and it gets dry, needs moisture, absorbs chemicals and toxins, and has reactions just like the rest of our delicate cranial skin.
